Tree damage update: Council response and safety tips
Tweed has experienced widespread tree falls across Council land, roads and private property due to ex-Cyclone Alfred. Strong winds and heavy rain have caused extensive damage to trees and vegetation. Residents are reminded to avoid fallen trees and debris, as there may be hidden dangers such as broken branches, power lines, or unstable trunks.
We're working closely with the SES to clear these trees as quickly and safely as possible but please be patient as the recovery process will take time.
Our crews are working tirelessly to remove fallen trees and prioritise the most urgent hazards while ensuring the safety of our staff. The scale of the damage is massive and cleanup efforts will continue into the months ahead. Staff safety is our top priority as we manage thousands of incidents. To speed up the recovery, we are working on a plan to bring in additional crews and equipment from other councils from tomorrow.
Park, playground and sports fields closures
All parks, playgrounds and sports fields are closed until further notice. We ask everyone to please stay safe and avoid these areas until it’s safe to return.
What to do if you encounter a dangerous tree:
- On a road: Call Council at 02 6670 2400
- If it's near power lines: Call Essential Energy on 13 23 91
- On your property or blocking access: Call the SES at 132 500
- For life-threatening emergencies: Call 000
Green waste
If your green bin is full, store your green waste in a safe place until your next collection. We'll have more to share on additional tree waste collection options soon.
For non-urgent Council issues
Non-urgent issues can be reported online via our report a problem form.
Get in touch with us if you need to. Our teams are working around the clock to keep you safe. If you're unable to access information online, call us on 02 6670 2400. Tweed Shire Council’s Contact Centre is online and taking calls, however the in-person offices are closed until further notice.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to recover from this event.
Please stay safe.
