Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred update: Council facilities

Some Council facilities have now reopened after being temporarily affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred, while others remain closed.

Below is the latest update on the status of various facilities and venues across the Tweed.

Swimming pools 

Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre’s (TRAC) resumed regular opening hours at all three locations, including the Starting Block Café on Wednesday 12 March. All programs are back to normal, including Learn to Swim, Squads, and Aqua Aerobics. 

Libraries  

Richmond Tweed Regional Libraries at Tweed Heads, Kingscliff and Murwillumbah reopened Tuesday 11 March. Regular programs and activities may still be affected. For further information please visit Richmond Tweed Regional Library and head to the event page.

Cultural facilities (Gallery and Museum)

Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre will reopen as of Thursday 13 March. Apex Dining Cafe at the Gallery has reopened.

Tweed Regional Museum has reopened. 

Cemeteries

Council Cemeteries have reopened. Visitors are advised to be cautious. 

Community venues

The following community centres and venues have reopened: 

  • Banora Point Community Centre 

  • The Activities Room at Tweed Heads South Community Centre 

  • The Tweed Heads Auditorium, Harvard Room and South Sea Islander Rooms at Council’s Tweed Heads Administration office  

  • Kingscliff Community Hall 

  • The Canvas & Kettle Room at Council’s Murwillumbah Administration Building  

  • Tweeds Heads South Community Centre will be used as a dedicated Recovery Assistant Point until Sunday 16 March 5pm.  Services will include the Reconstruction Authority and partner organisations (including but not limited to Services Australia, Legal Aid and Essential Energy).

  • Murwillumbah Civic Centre Auditorium will hold a Mobile Outreach service on Friday 14 March from 11 am to 1 pm.  Mobile recovery outreach is being rolled out by the Reconstruction Authority. People can visit the mobile service for help and advice.
