Inaugural Splash, Movie ‘n’ DJ night brings Tweed's youth together
27 November 2024
On Friday 22 November, Council hosted the inaugural Splash, Movie ‘n’ DJ Night at the Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre in Murwillumbah, bringing together around 80 young people aged 12-24 for an unforgettable evening. The event featured dancing, popcorn, swimming, and a movie on the big screen — creating a fun and memorable experience for all who attended.
Throughout November, Council engaged with local youth at the Murwillumbah Show, Kingscliff Markets and 5 local schools, collecting 517 survey responses for the Youth Outdoor Recreation Action Plan. This plan aims to make Tweed a more vibrant and enjoyable place for young people.
Council sought feedback not only from youth but from the broader community to ensure the plan reflects what everyone wants. Young people who completed the survey were given a free ticket to the Splash, Movie ‘n’ DJ Night as a thank you for their input.
The draft action plan identifies four key areas for improvement across the Tweed:
• Youth-friendly spaces
• Skate facilities (and scooter areas)
• Bike facilities (including an urban bike park, pump track, BMX track)
• Outdoor events and activities
This action plan will help guide the development of recreational facilities that meet the needs of Tweed’s youth both now and in the future.
