On Wednesday 6 November, Council hosted a movie screening of Rising Up, an inspiring documentary that shows every action, no matter how small, can make a difference in our world.

The event, held at Tweed River High School, attracted more than 60 attendees and featured a special Q&A session with the film's creator, Kal Glanznig, after the screening.

The Q&A asked what individuals could do to make a difference for climate change, how young people can get involved and how people can use their passions to create change.

Participants were then invited to put their inspiration into action, by voting for their top 3 ideas for climate and sustainability actions. The top actions were:

  • Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle (28 votes)
  • Plant a tree (22)
  • Join a group (15)
  • Throw away less food (14)
  • Make your money count (9)
  • Save energy at home (9)

These ideas will be added to a 'palette of possibilities' for community-led climate actions at the upcoming Climate Futures event in February 2025. Participants were also invited to join Tweed’s new Community Climate Action Group.
