Sports events – casual

Council sports fields are available to the community for casual hire, for organised commercial or informal sporting activities. Most of the fields are under a seasonal licence agreement with local sports clubs, however they can be used by the general public outside the agreed licensed hours.

Submitting an online application

Applications must be received a minimum of 10 weeks prior to an event to allow time for a Council invoice to be raised, or a minimum of 2 weeks prior if paying by bank card over the phone or in person.

Before submitting the online application below, ensure you:

  1. Call Council’s Parks and Active Communities Unit on 02 6670 2400 to check availability, make a tentative booking, and get contact details for the season licence-holding sports club.
  2. Contact the relevant sports club to discuss your intended usage, as you will be required to make a statement and enter details regarding your discussion.
  3. Have public liability insurance (Certificate of Currency) ready to attach to your application a minimum cover of $20 million.

Conducting organised activities on Council sports fields without a licence renders any insurance policy null and void. On the days of events, a signed digital or paper copy of the licence must be presented to a Council Officer if requested.

Note that Council do not accept backup bookings. If your event is cancelled due to weather or field closures, contact Parks and Active Communities on 02 6670 2400 to arrange an alternative date.

Payment of fees

Fees must be paid in full before a licence can be issued. Fees are non-refundable.

Once you have received an invoice, payment can be made:

To check current fees, use the search fees and charges online tool, and enter “sports grounds” in the search field to see relevant fees.
