Ebenezer Park and Pathway upgrade

Ebenezer-3.jpg

Situated next to the Tweed River and Little Duranbah Beach, Ebenezer Park provides an escape just a short walk from the Jack Evans Boat Harbour precinct and Duranbah Beach.

The park has been impacted by flood and storm damage. Initially we explored the option of realigning the path, we have opted to invest in renewing the seawall and to upgrade the existing footpath.

The seawall will be renewed to enhance protection against coastal erosion, and the existing 100 metres of pathway will be widened to 2.5 metres and integrated with the seawall, improving connectivity and safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Works will also include a new retaining wall which will double as seating, new park furniture, and an accessible drinking fountain, while retaining the existing beach access stairs and shower.

This upgrade will benefit the community by strengthening protection against coastal erosion, stabilising the shoreline, and safeguarding park infrastructure and trees along the beachfront. The improved pathway will provide enhanced safety and accessibility for all users.

Council is actively seeking approvals and additional funding from Crown Lands for this project. Please note that some aspects are dependent on securing necessary approvals and funding.

Project Schedule

  • Planning: Late 2024
  • Construction: Mid 2025, pending approvals

What’s involved

  • New seats with back and arm rests

Why it’s happening

Flooding and storm activity in 2022 caused significant damage to parts of the pathway and seawall, restricting public access and potentially affecting tree protection.

How it’s getting done

Budget: $398,000. Council is currently seeking approvals and additional funding from Crown Lands to contribute to the cost of the upgrade.

Jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
