Barrie Smith Fields car park upgrade

Picture2.jpg

We’re improving the resilience of the car park at Barrie Smith Fields to better endure future floods and ensure accessibility for everyone using the hockey facilities including the sports fields.

The car park is being upgraded, and we will add more native trees to enhance shade and amenities. Furthermore, two new accessible parking spaces and an extended footpath will improve access to the clubhouse, canteen, and changing rooms.

Project schedule

  • Planning: Mid 2024
  • Construction: Mid 2025

What’s involved

  • New asphalt car park with updated configuration and entrances
  • Two accessible parking spaces
  • New pick-up and drop-off area in front of the clubhouse
  • Accessible path from parking spaces to the clubhouse and connecting footpaths
  • Upgraded entrance to the clubhouse
  • Minor drainage improvements to prevent water pooling
  • Demolition of existing basketball courts, which will be replaced with new turf
  • Concrete edging and mulch around existing trees
  • Removal of four trees, with six new trees to be planted

Why it’s happening

Severe weather and flooding in 2022 caused substantial damage to the internal access road and carpark, severely damaging the road surface and causing road subsidence.
