New Museum Concepts
Tweed River Regional Museum operates at three sites - Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads, and Uki and South Arm.
Redevelopment of the Murwillumbah site and construction of a new facility at Tweed Heads will provide a key focus for tourism and centres of discovery for Tweed residents. These sites will operate as one and they will complement one another but their own characters will be distinctive. The museums at Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads will be major destinations on a 'cultural path' around Tweed Shire.
TRRM Murwillumbah Redevelopment
A major project milestone was achieved in November 2011 when Tweed Shire councillors resolved to accept the concept design and supported the submission of a development application to upgrade and expand Tweed River Regional Museum, Murwillumbah. In addition, Council will construct a storage facility in South Murwillumbah in 2012 to house museum collections and Council archives.
The existing museum at Murwillumbah is housed in an historic building on Queensland Road. This building will be refurbished as part of the redevelopment and a new addition will be constructed.
The concept design for the addition meets highest heritage principles and museum standards. It will provide substantial new collection display space, a significantly increased capacity to cater for visitors and school groups, and will maintain a research centre for the Murwillumbah Historical Society.
To enable this significant work to proceed, the Tweed River Regional Museum at Murwillumbah will be closed to the public throughout 2012.

Flagstaff Hill - Architects Concept
The Architect's Concept document for Tweed River Regional Museum at Tweed Heads was on exhibition at Kingscliff Library, Murwillumbah Civic and Cultural Centre and the Tweed Heads Civic Centre from the 8th February to the 8th March 2007.
